Wealden Heaths SPA Phase II

Background

The original Wealden Heaths SPA was named Thursley, Hankley and Frensham Commons SPA and assigned WWFF reference GFF-0207.

Phase I of this SPA added further protection to the Thursley, Hankley and Frensham Commons SSSI, which also forms the southern part of the Thursley, Ash, Pirbright and Chobham SAC – the northern part of the SAC forms part of the Thames Basin Heaths SPA (qv).

Phase II

Subsequently, the SPA has been extended and renamed, with the addition of four standalone SSSIs.  These have now been assigned WWFF GFF references as follows:

  • GFF-0355 = Devil’s Punch Bowl SSSI
  • GFF-0356 = Woolmer Forest SSSI and SAC
  • GFF-0357 = Bramshott and Ludshott Commons SSSI
  • GFF-0358 = Broxhead and Kingsley Commons SSSI

It is hoped that these will all be activated over the coming months.

Alice Holt Royal Forest

After much deliberation, it has been decided to assign a reference (GFF-0354) to Alice Holt Royal Forest.

This area of Royal Forest is an Ancient Woodland, owned and managed by the Forestry Commission – of sufficient importance that the original boundary of the South Downs National Park (GFF-0018) was revised to include it!

Previous WWFF activity from the forest, of reference GFF-0018, will be reallocated to GFF-0354.

Mytchett Place – Not quite a Park To Park… but!

WWFF P2P

Showing the position of Mychett Place and the surrounding GFFs

Showing the position of Mychett Place and the surrounding GFFs… GFF-0292 and GFF-0324

As well as activating them “properly” quite often, regular WWFF Hunters will have noted that I seem to “give away” WWFF references GFF-0292 and GFF-0324 quite regularly to other activators.

I am able to do this because, while my workplace is not within a designated area, it is surrounded by them – see map!

  • GFF-0292 is shown in orange
  • GFF-0324 is shown in green

This means that, either on my commute to-and-from work, or at convenient points of the day, it is quite easy for me to place my car in a convenient location – signing as /mobile.

Announcement: GxFF Reference Numbering

GFF_LogoAll activators please note, taht with immediate effect, all GxFF reference numbers are now four-digit, with the addition of a leading zero. This is bring GxFF into line with the many programs that have already adopted the four-digit convention.

So for example, GFF-328 becomes GFF-0328.

Would all activators (and chasers claiming Park-To-Park award credit) please adopt the four-digit number

WWFF Park-To-Park Award

WWFF Park To Park Award

WWFF Park To Park Award

One of the benefits of being the Logsearch author is that you get to be the first recipient of a new award!

For some time, there has been discussion regarding a Park-To-Park award, for confirmed contacts between two WWFF activators. After much discussion, consideration of rules and then the challenge of writing the appropriate code, the award is now a reality.

Initially, the award will be offered for 10 unique P2P contacts.

Thanks to Danny ON4VT for taking on teh role of Award Manager.
